Hoya heuschkeliana Care & Info

Hoya heuschkeliana is a charming, small-leafed species native to the Philippines. It is highly prized by collectors for its adorable succulent foliage and unique flowers that carry a distinct, nostalgic scent.

🌿 Appearance & Growth

Foliage: Small, succulent, and ovate (egg-shaped) leaves. They are typically glossy green with slightly recurved edges.

Sun Stressing: When exposed to high light, the green leaves can "sun stress," turning beautiful shades of bronze or reddish-pink.

Growth Habit: A versatile grower that looks stunning cascading from a hanging basket or climbing vigorously up a moss pole or trellis.

🌸 The "Popcorn" Flowers

Shape: Unlike the flat or star-shaped flowers of many Hoyas, these are tiny, urn-shaped (urceolate) bells that grow in clusters.

Scent: Widely known to smell exactly like buttered popcorn or warm caramel.

Colors: The standard variety has pink flowers, but a popular yellow-flowered variety also exists.

☀️ Care Requirements

Feature Requirement
Light Bright, indirect light. Needs high light to bloom and sun-stress; avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun.
Watering Wait until dry. Allow the top 50–75% of the soil to dry. Leaves will feel soft or "pucker" when thirsty.
Soil Chunky & Airy. Use a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil.
Humidity High (60%+). Thrives in humid environments for faster growth and reliable blooming.
Temperature Warm. Keep between 15°C – 27°C. Protect from cold drafts.

✨ Common Varieties

Hoya heuschkeliana (Green): The standard form with pink flowers.

Hoya heuschkeliana Variegata: Highly sought after; features inner or outer variegation in shades of cream, white, and lime green.

Hoya heuschkeliana Yellow: Specifically selected for its vibrant yellow blossoms.

Pro Tip: Never cut off the peduncles (the little stalks where the flowers grow). Hoyas bloom from the same spot year after year!🌼 Motto: Rooted in joy, grown in light — that’s the Hoya Rosita way.

‼️ Important Info for All Plant Cuttings ‼️

After your purchase, please take a moment to read the note from me that includes tips and tricks for propagating your cutting successfully! While it’s rare, shipping stress can sometimes affect cuttings. If you notice any issues upon arrival, please reach out within 48 hours of delivery. I'm happy to offer a refund, replacement, or coupon if there's a problem — but I can only help if I hear from you within that window!

🌿 Normal Shipping Stress
It's completely normal for cuttings to show signs of stress such as wilting, yellowing, or browning during transit. This doesn't mean the cutting is dead — as long as the node is healthy, the cutting is still viable and has the potential to root and grow.

📦 Shipping & Weather Notes
All cuttings are shipped via USPS Standard Shipping. If you’d like a quicker option, please select Priority Shipping at checkout.

If temperatures in your area are expected to drop below 50°F (10°C), I strongly recommend adding a heat pack to your order (available in the shop or as a shipping upgrade). This helps protect your cutting during transit and reduces the risk of cold damage.

🌡️ Weather & Delivery
Please keep an eye on the weather in your area. I do my best to pack your plants with care, but I’m not able to control USPS delays, weather-related issues, or delivery errors. If there’s a delivery problem, you can contact USPS directly — but I’m always happy to help where I can, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
