Monstera – Basic Info 🌱
Monstera, often called the Swiss Cheese Plant, is a tropical vining plant loved for its large, glossy leaves and natural splits or holes called fenestrations. These plants grow quickly, climb when given support, and make a bold, jungle-like statement in any home. They’re easy to care for, forgiving, and perfect for beginners or collectors who want a big, lush plant without much fuss.
Monsteras thrive in bright, indirect light, like conditions found under a tree canopy in nature. They appreciate warmth, slightly higher humidity, and a chunky, well-draining soil mix. With the right care, they grow fast and root very easily.
How to Root Monstera Cuttings 🌿✂️
Rooting Methods
You can root Monstera cuttings in water, soil, perlite, or LECA. Each works well, but water is the easiest for beginners.
Water Propagation 💧
Place the cutting in a clean jar with the node fully submerged.
Keep the leaf out of the water.
Set in bright, indirect light.
Change water every 3–7 days.
Roots usually appear within 2–4 weeks, depending on conditions.
Soil Propagation 🪴
Plant the node in a chunky soil mix (perlite, bark, potting soil).
Water lightly—keep soil slightly moist, not soggy.
Place in bright, indirect light and maintain warm temps.
Roots develop in 3–6 weeks.
Tips for Faster Rooting
Warm temps (70–85°F)
Humid environment
Avoid direct sunlight
Use clean tools and fresh water or soil
